Seminars > TR108-12: UMTS Introduction to HSUPA

Code: TR108-12 Radio Communication

Dipl.-Ing. Reiner Stuhlfauth, Rohde & Schwarz

Subject

After the expansion of the Downlink, the WCDMA specification offers, in accordance with 3GPP WCDMA specifications Release-6, an expansion of Uplink, the so-called High Speed Uplink Packet Access (HSUPA), officially stated as the WCDMA FDD Enhanced Uplink.
The goal is to enable data rates of up to, a maximum of 5.7 Mbit/s and to considerably reduce latency periods through the application of new technologies. Thus new services can be offered to the end users and the existing services can be made available at a lower cost. HSUPA includes changes in both the physical parameters as well as the protocols used in the UMTS air interface.
In this seminar you will be introduced in detail to the basic mechanisms of HSUPA, based on the 3GPP FDD-Standard, Rel. 6. This seminar contains the functionality of the physical layer, the transport layer protocol MAC and the modifications of the layer 3, the RRC protocol for HSUPA. In addition, future enhancements of HSUPA+ according to Release-7 and later releases will be presented. Participants should have an understanding of WCDMA technology or have participated in the seminar TR108-9.
